A Review of the Desulfurization Processes Used for Waste Tire Pyrolysis Oil

The increasing global population and the rapid industrial development associated therewith have increased demand for fossil-derived fuel oils. sources of fossil fuels are limited, many studies been being conducted to find alternative sources. Waste tire pyrolysis oil (WTPO) attracts considerable attention as an because its properties similar those diesel oil. However, WTPO has a high sulfur content >1.0 wt%, which is above environmental standard limit 0.1 wt%; therefore, it cannot be used in engines directly. It thus highly necessary remove compounds from tire-derived finding appropriate environmentally friendly process proving difficult. This review article presents various desulfurization methods removal WTPO, such hydrodesulfurization (HDS), oxidative (ODS), ultrasound-assisted (UAOD), acid treatment. Of these, HDS most expensive involves consumption hydrogen, temperature (~450 °C), pressure (~200 bar), whereas UAOD efficient economic method reducing WTPO.
